The Magnificent Seven

Seven states. Seven states will (maybe) decide the election.

I’m frantically trying to hit the seven as much as possible. Trump is, too.

Many call the United States a democracy, but we are actually a constitutional federal republic. That means simple majority vote doesn’t pick the President.

Five times in history, presidential candidates have won the popular vote but lost the Electoral College…

And how did we get the Electoral College? The founding fathers debated for months, with some arguing that Congress should pick the president and others insisting on a democratic popular vote.

Their compromise was the Electoral College. It ensures that the richer and more populous states aren’t the only states with a say in elections.

It’s an imperfect system, but it’s ours.

It generally makes a few states, and the people’s votes in those states more valuable than votes in others.

It does help focus campaign time. Like, Trump doesn’t have to waste time in California. Because, even though there are a few people claiming they will “turn CA red” we all know — that won’t happen.

I don’t really know why California is going to stay blue. Most Californians hate their Democratic Governor. Newsom. Or, as many call him — NewScum. He has a 27 percent favorability rating… Polls in CA have a majority of the voters feeling that California is headed in wrong direction and government, in general, is among the top issues identified by likely California voters, behind the economy, housing costs, homelessness and crime. The economy pretty bad, housing costs are out of control, homelessness has skyrocketed and is costing tax payers an arm and a leg, and crime is off the charts bad. But people say their number one concern is their current government.

But. Then they keep voting blue. For higher taxes, higher crime… and no thought at all to change the party running things?

I mean, good for us! I guess it helps when we demonize and lie about the Republicans and their goals and plans. And when the media spews those same lies over and over again.

I forgot what I was writing about. Oh. North Carolina. This place sucks.

Three more days. And then I don’t have to do a thing for four years. Maybe campaign again starting in 3 years. But besides that… not much. My promises to the voters? Does any person alive actually believe I’ll do any of those things. Fix what I broke? Yeah, “sure I will.” “I’ll get right to work — Day 1.” Ha ha ha ha ha.

Three days. I can make it. We good.
